For You, Y’all, and All Y’all
Choosing the Ridge & Valley Farms Slogan took a lot of time, energy and thought. We wanted to make sure that it reflected our values as a farmer, business owner, and proud hillbilly from Southwest Virginia.
Families are becoming more and more interested in knowing where their food comes from, and rightly so. People are honing in on not only what they are eating, but also what they are feeding to their loved ones. Part of our mission is to be 100% open with exactly how our animals are raised - from the day they’re born to the day the product is delivered to your door. When your beef is delivered, you’ll know exactly how it was raised and where it was raised. With our website (and this blog), we will take YOU step by step through the process.
Growing up in these beautiful hills we call home, one of our many traditions is the act of giving. I am fortunate to have grown up on a small family farm where much of the year’s harvest was always shared. It wasn’t just family, either. If you came to visit my grandmother, you couldn’t leave without something - whether it was a can of her tomato juice (still trying to figure out how she does it!) or some frozen cooked apples she made from her small orchard. She was always giving something away. My grandparents would even deliver food to elderly families up and down their road - not for hopes of anything in return, it was just automatic and without hesitation. In my community everyone helped each other and everyone was better off because of it. Jack would show up with a bushel of beans and Kelly would bring some peaches...it was just good, genuine people contributing in a positive way to their community.
At Ridge and Valley Farms, we believe community health and development is the key to a successful business. When you invest in your local community, you are investing in your family. We believe that taking care of one another is the most basic and rewarding act of living.
Over the past few years of my farming career, I’ve always had my sights aimed toward a community based agricultural business where consumers feel truly engaged in their product. Ridge and Valley Farms was created under the feeling and sense of community we hold dear here in Appalachia. I don’t think anyone would argue that we are some of the most creative and resilient folks on the planet. We hold true to tradition and believe in the honor and value of hard work. It is an honor of mine to serve a community that possesess such distinctive values with responsibly raised, all-natural Black Angus Beef.
It is under these basic values where For You, Y’all, and All Y’all originated. Let us know what you think!
